Jason Shawn Alexander Exhibit 10/13—11/26

Tennessee native, Jason Shawn Alexander premieres a new collection of large narrative works at 101/exhibit gallery in Los Angeles, October 13—November 26, 2012. Emotionally gestural, Jason’s subjects work within a world of artistic magnification painted with special attention to human emotion and figural rendition.

The private premiere of Jason Shawn Alexander’s new collection of fine art paintings, as well as introduction to the new 101/exhibit gallery in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 11 at 7PM. Jason’s large narrative works on canvas are a thoughtful mix of painterly gesture, emotional exposition and modern deconstruction. This is the first LA exhibition of Jason Shawn Alexander’s work in two years and first opportunity to review his first published collection of paintings, “Undertow.”

101 Exhibit presents Three Exhibitions

101/exhibit in Miami delivers a three person exhibition featuring collage, painting and sculptural pieces Saturday, March 10 through April 12, 2012. Narrative art forms created by Chambliss Giobbi, David Michael Bowers and Christopher Carter dignify high-quality aesthetic with masterful works deeply rooted in the art of storytelling.


Chambliss Giobbi -- Not So Still, (Life)
Giobbi’s work is deeply psychological: portraits at once linear and composed, then abrupt and splintered. One is left with the notion of witnessing a concentrated, virtually operatic compression of moments, catharsis and myth.


David Michael Bowers -- The Human Condition
Upon first glance Bowers' work takes you back to traditional painting. Deeply symbolic, David’s paintings reveal masterfully rendered clues that vivify central themes and societal messages.


Christopher Carter -- Work
Looking for relationships between reclaimed woods, rope and found objects sculptor Chris Carter assembles forms influenced by cultural dynamics. Each sculpture is a tomb of the modern urban landscape and looks to capture history.

I began learning about design as a young boy, insisting on a page-by-page read of “Loopy,” my favorite story featuring an amazing bi-plane written and illustrated by Hardie Gramatky. Los Angeles based fine artist Jason Shawn Alexander is working hard to prepare for his LA-based installation of large scaled paintings and new works this coming October. 101/exhibit owner and curator Sloan Schaffer is putting together all of the final touches on this important collection and details will be revealed soon.

What’s up Twenty—Twelve?

One week down and 51.177457 weeks of action packed design goodness to go featuring: Clint Eastwood, Cartoon Network, Guru Tattoo, Martin Wittfooth, Kevin Paulsen, gallery promotions for 101/Exhibit plus the Mindy Solomon Gallery and a full length fine art documentary film.

Anyone who knows me, recognizes my commitment to design and love for once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to collaborate with the fine arts community. As fate would have it, one of the first people I met when moving to California began with Clint Eastwood. Your can imagine my excitement when Lisa Fitzpatrick, project director and catalyst, called and invited me into the Malpaso Productions world of Clint Eastwood? Over 50,000 words will fill the pages of “Clint Eastwood, Master Filmmaker at Work” with an introduction by Steven Spielberg, preface by Morgan Freeman, authored by Michael Goldman, edited/created by Lisa Fitzpatrick of Swan Studio and Robert Hoffman of Technicolor and published by Abrams, New York. Guru Tattoo features eleven creative professionals that make a forever lasting impression with inspired draftsmanship and dynamic ink for your “bod.” Guru founder, Aaron Della Vedova, is mixing up the flavor for the shop’s first book, “Creative Urges” featuring edge-to-edge reproductions of some of Southern California’s finest tattoos. Over the past ten years I have been operating a booth at the world-famous Comic-Con in San Diego. An honor, as the exhibit halls are filled with wall-to-wall inspiration and good pals. Fortuitously, I have made friends with the kind folks at Cartoon Network over the years and a creative collaborative project has emerged to celebrate their twentieth-anniversary celebration in book form. The Cartoon Network 20th Anniversary Book will be one part celebration of their commitment to deliver an entertaining array of entertainment, one part celebration of the men and women who bring hundreds of characters to life, one part artist interpretations of their characters, one part extravaganza to be announced prior to Comic-Con 2012.

2012 will feature active promotion of important contemporary artists through Murphy Book Publishing, documentary filmmaking, active reporting, art collecting and archiving. The long awaited film and longer filmmaking process continues with the delivery of a new feature length documentary film that features: James Jean, Souther Salazar, Martin Wittfooth, Matt Furie, Mark Todd, Esther Pearl Watson, Megan Whitmarsh, Kelsey Brookes, Victor Castillo and more.

And yes there is more. Collaborative projects and creative exchanges with gallery owners, support at art fairs and Art Basel in Miami in support of 101/exhibit and Mindy Solomon Gallery. Los Angeles based figurative painter Shawn Alexander debuts his most recent collection titled, “Undertow” at 101/exhibit in Miami Thursday, December 1. Jason’s new collection of figurative paintings captures deeply personal moments combined with his signature style—capturing theatric emotions coupled with overtones of allegory.

Jason’s work centers on exaggerated gestures featuring the elongation and abstract gestures of the human body painted with intense personal narrative influenced by his upbringing in rural Tennessee. Each canvas is richly adorned with text, mixed media and the thickness of layered paint. Jason has been featured in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. and influenced by narrative masters: Francis Bacon, Anselm Kiefer, Goya and more. Jason’s new book, “Undertow,” is by Shana Nys Dambrot, Herbert Russel and Sloan Schaffer and features the paintings on exhibit.
