Mark Todd pays homage to the comic books that inspire him most. Mark’s paintings are widely collected and his “zine” celebrates an iconic view about the mythic superhero. Mark Todd and his wife Esther Pearl Watson co-produced and wrote a book about zines published by Houghton Mifflin entitled, “Whatcha mean, What’s a Zine?” Needless to say, Mark’s comic book inspired artwork continues to grow in scope and size. Some day soon he will be featured in a museum, “I just know it.”
Mark Murphy delivers “TaxMe,” a colorful explosion of monster scribbles that define the current state of economic affairs. Of course, he really does not want more tax but feels the need to express deep concern for the current state of the US economy with pen and ink, watercolor and acrylic. Joel Nakamura is one of my oldest collaboration pals who is based in Santa Fe. Joel is a gifted painter who loves pursuing his homeland’s most valued treasures—Godzilla, Ultraman, Johnny Socko and all of their foes.
Tim Mantoani is my favorite photographer and brought small-scaled toys to life through the magic of his lens. Tim is currently working on a huge collection of photographer portraits with their most treasured print, “Behind Photographs Project.”
Mark (that’s me) is always on the lookout for a new pursuit. Whether it’s a film, book or client project, Mark is always looking for the next big project and the opportunity to collaborate with talented professionals.
Everyone involved in this project, (the fantastic four), is a major leader in the art’s community. Working with Mark Todd, Joel Nakamura and Tim Mantoani reminds me of the privilege to work hard, try new things and combine many different styles to stylistically communicate “original” storytelling.
