Martin Wittfooth at Aqua

Martin Wittfooth : A Candle for Orphans : Oil on Panel : 24" x 24" : Available for Aqua

Martin Wittfooth is a Brooklyn based artist whose paintings draw on both industrial and natural elements, often displaying an intersection and clash of those worlds. Martin’s work implores the viewer to question the status quo, to challenge that which is taken for granted, and to proceed with caution on our present course.

Martin describes, “My current body of work explores the theme of storm. These are scenes of the forecast—chaos, and aftermath of storms, a theme that intrigues me in the fact that it carries an unsettling contemporary context. I’ve begun to search for sub-themes within the larger world of my work and decidedly, concentrated my approach for future solo exhibitions.”

"Saints Preserve Us” : 83" x 51" with frame : Oil on linen and Mixed

"Saints Preserve Us" is a larger-scale painting created in early 2009, sitting in a custom-made frame that houses an assortment of antique objects. The painting marks an exciting transition for me, as with this piece I started to explore the merging of the 3-dimensional with the 2-dimensional plane. I’ve been interested in playing with installation for awhile, and this effort set a whole series of new ideas and inspiration in motion.”
